Jules Verne, who in the novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" once had placed the entrance to the underground world in Icelandic volcano Snaefellsjökull, would be delighted with our ski touring trip to the Trollhalbinsel in the north of Iceland. Of course we also dive into the algae-milky warm waters of the "Blue Lagoon" and visit the Godafoss waterfall, which had to be a film backdrop for "Game of Thrones".
Iceland has a lot to offer and not for nothing many travellers are attracted by the natural forces, the mystic flora and diverse fauna of Iceland. Here on the continental seam between Europe and North America, the mid-Atlantic ridge rises above sea level and, like a shop window, it can be glimpsed into the interior of the Earth. And before the lonely north coast, parrot divers draw their circles while in the sea from mid-April thousands of orcas, hump, mink and blue whales gather.
On Saturday it is time again and I break up with a group of experienced skiers in the North Atlantic. A direct flight takes us from Zurich to Reykjavik and on the road we continue towards Trollhalbinsel to Akureyri and finally to Siglufjördur.
