The ski tours in Finnmark and around Alta are often lonely and not heavily frequented at all, the vastness of the landscape so high up in the north is unique. The mountains of Finnmark reach almost 1200 m into the sky from the sea and lie far north of 70 degrees latitude. Nevertheless, it is not super arctic cold, you can expect temperatures like in the Alps in spring. There is a mighty glacier field, some peaks are sharp and rocky like the Aiguilles of Chamonix, typical are the plateau-shaped peaks with steep flanks formed by the ice age. Gentle cruising in pleasure terrain but also steep, narrow descents are possible. The area became famous thanks to a spectacular ski film by Nikolai Schirmer.

About 10 kilometers south of Nuvsvåg lies the highest mountain in the province of Finnmark, Loppatinden, and the large glacier Øksfjordjøkelen. About 7 kilometers southwest of Nuvsvåg are the mountain Svartfjellet and the glacier Svartfjelljøkelen. Very impressive.
