The sunlight has long been back as far north of the Arctic Circle (70 degrees north) but it still draws enchanting moods with mild winter colours and ensures a peaceful atmosphere in cold surroundings.
With a small group I started in the Nordland season on 10 March 2018. On a headland in the Lyngenfjord I have recently found a beautiful resort with modern fishing huts as a base. The location is simply great and well suited to marvel at the dancing polar lights at night. With a drink in the warm open-air whirlpool, there is a very fast holiday atmosphere.
During the day I like to prefer quiet ski tours, which are far away from the mainstream in the islands to be found – for us on the "Gold Coast side" of the Lyngenalpen but easily reachable. Many of these tours are also not found in popular literature and are therefore still absolute "insider" with best snow. The winter had started well at the beginning of the year and brought abundant snow. January and especially February were very cold and a stable high dominated the weather. That's why the ski touring season is really getting started and every day fresh powder snow fell from the sky. The islands outside in the Barents Sea also received more snowfall than the Lyngenalpen themselves. So we had a first wonderful week there!
When we left to the coast line on the last day, three dolphins were waiting for us. Just amazing, this combination with mountains and the sea! I love it! We are comfortable with the "Kong Harald", a liner of the "Hurtigruten" in 4 hours with a car and a gourmet dinner then travelled to Tromsö: a conclusion so now comes into the program.
