We recommend an overnight stay the night before at the new Eiger Lodge in Grindelwald-Grund.
Meeting point at the ticket office at the valley station of the Eiger Express gondola lift in Grindelwald-Grund (summer from 7:15 / autumn and winter from 8:00).
Ride on the new gondola lift with a view of the Eigerwand to the Eigergletscher station. We then take the cogwheel railway to the Jungfraujoch. After a short coffee break, we hike in about 30 min to the entrance to the south ridge of the Mönch. If the conditions are good, it is also possible to traverse the SW ridge. After roping up we start the ascent. Easy rock passages (grade II) alternate with exciting white firn ridges. On the summit ridge we concentrate on the narrow firn ridge and experience the vertical world from the very top. A deep feeling of satisfaction then surrounds us at the very top of the summit with a breathtakingly beautiful view of the Eiger, the Jungfrau and endless glacier surfaces with the many 4000-metre peaks of the Swiss Alps. Descent again via the south ridge and hike to the Eiger station. In summer there is the option of stopping for a bite to eat at the Mönchsjochhütte before the train takes us comfortably back to Grindelwald.
