Iceland Heliskiing

In Iceland, heliskiing is a unique and amazing adventure. Long descents over mountain peaks become an experience under a sun that never sets. The breathtaking landscapes of the North Atlantic coast will amaze you, and the incredibly varied topography guarantees an exciting and difficult trip for even the most experienced freerider!

Iceland offers amazing opportunities for heliskiing and other special activities on the "days off". Some ideas for possible excursions are wildlife watching, visiting geysers, hiking in volcanic caves or just a day of fishing.

For whom is Iceland Heliskiing suitable?

Skiers and snowboarders of all levels can enjoy heliskiing in Iceland. You don't have to be an experienced freerider to enjoy the deep valleys, long runs and rolling terrain above the Atlantic Ocean. There is some variability depending on the group and program of choice. Iceland is the perfect destination for experienced skiers and snowboarders who are comfortable with off-piste situations and are in good shape. Once you make your first tracks in this snowy heaven, you won't be able to contain your enthusiasm. All intrepid people who want more than the typical "powder search" in the Alps, but don't want to stray too far from home, will get their money's worth in Iceland.

With over 4000 square kilometers of stunning Arctic highlands, Iceland is a veritable Valhalla for freeriders. Long runs over wonderfully sloping slopes from the peaks to the sea seem tailor-made for freeriding. On the Troll Peninsula, more than 90% of the mountains are suitable for skiing or snowboarding! The mountains are the ideal combination of large, not too steep glacier runs and wide, steep to very steep mountain slopes. Freeriding in Iceland is a very rich and distinctive adventure, as it is easy to climb about 1300 vertical meters from the summit to the coast. Moreover, the Arctic climate and the close proximity to the sea guarantee enough cold and stable snow.

Iceland Heliskiing

Iceland Heliskiing |The Icelandic Klaengshóll Lodge

Iceland was geologically formed by volcanic activity in the Atlantic Ocean about 20 million years ago. Today, there are mountains there that rise up to 1500 meters above sea level. The resulting terrain is not particularly high, but it is exhilarating for freeriders. The area around Klngshóll Lodge is large, the snowpack is very stable, and new snow keeps falling throughout the winter.
You will spend your days surrounded by untamed nature with a breathtaking view of the azure ocean. You will be surrounded by the great outdoors and skiing on exceptionally long sunny days.

Different Iceland heliskiing terrain

There is a wide range of terrain and slopes on the Troll Peninsula. The snowpack in Iceland is generally quite stable, so the risk of avalanches is relatively low. Nowhere else will you find such consistently steep runs for skiing or snowboarding. However, there are also plenty of "gentle" runs for not-so-experienced skiers and boarders. The best spring weather and lightest snow Mother Nature has to offer is usually found in May. March is primarily a winter month, so Iceland heliskiing usually takes place at higher elevations and on north-facing slopes with fantastic powder snow.
