Monte Rosa High Tour
Some info...
This dreamlike spaghetti tour over the highest mountains of the Monte Rosa massif is certainly hard to beat! With your BERIE guide you hike over mighty glacier streams and climb up to ten 4000-metre peaks. You sleep at very high altitude huts always far above 3000 metres and enjoy the delicacies of Italian cuisine with pasta, minestrone and espresso. Due to the high sleeping altitude, good acclimatisation is very important, so your guide adapts the pace to the enormous altitude and is deliberately leisurely on the way.
The advantage: we don't have to descend into the valley again, we always stay close to the summits. The route is not technically difficult, but there are always short, exposed passages that require full concentration. Constantly changing views of almost all 4000m peaks in the Alps provide excitement and reward. In the distance we can see the lakes in Ticino and Northern Italy, look at the rice fields of the Po Valley. The highest peaks of the Alps, from the Bernese Oberland to the Montblanc, gleam brightly white and majestically in contrast! Certainly a highlight: the overnight stay on the Capanna Regina Margherita (4554 m) on the summit of the Signalkuppe above the Monte Rosa east wall...
A summer fairy tale you should not miss!

Complete organization of the trip
exclusive: Cable car ride Zermatt-Klein Matterhorn, train ride Rotenboden-Zermatt
Day 1: Zermatt - Breithorn (4164 m) Welcome by your mountain guide in front of the "Matterhorn Paradise" ticket office / valley station (Klein Matterhorn valley station in the Winkelmatten district) at 9.00 am. After buying your ticket (Half-Fare travelcard!) you will float over Furi and Trockener Steg to the station "Klein Matterhorn" (3883 m), the highest cable car station in the Alps. From here you can admire countless high alpine peaks, not least Mont Blanc. Over the Breithorn plateau you climb two of the peaks of the Breithorn (4164 m). A beautiful running-in tour with snow flanks, first airy firn ridges and mighty cornices. The fantastic view all around of the Valais ice giants and many well-known peaks above the Aosta Valley is full of promise. After a short descent and a leisurely break on the glacier, you will hike in the afternoon over a sunny glacier plateau past the Schwarztor and Pollux to the dreamlike "Rifugio Val d'Ayas" (3394 m). For an aperitif in front of the hut, the thunder and crash of falling ice debris in the nearby glacier break accompanies you. Dinner and overnight stay Rifugio Val d'Ayas.
Day 2: Rifugio Val d'Ayas - Castor (4228 m) - Rifugio Quintino Sella: Shortly after sunrise, you are already roped up again on the glacier. Very slowly you make your way back towards Pollux and Castor, as your body still has to get used to the thin mountain air. You reach the Castor summit via a steep firn flank and a short, elegant firn ridge. Plenty of time up here to take a deep breath and look around. The mighty Lyskamm is now directly opposite and the Gorner Glacier is already far away. The ridge swings sublimely on to the Felikjoch and from there you turn off for the glacier descent towards the "Rifugio Quintino Sella" (3585 m), which you reach in the early afternoon. Before taking a siesta at the hut, enjoy some delicious homemade pasta or minestrone. Give your body a rest after the tour and you will be fit for all the other stages and summits. Dinner and overnight stay at Rifugio Quintino Sella.
Day 3: 5 x 4000 The view of the Gran Paradiso and Mont Blanc in the morning was fantastic and even more beautiful were the colours of the sunrise over Italy. Today, a wide glacier plateau leads you to the ascent to the foothills of the Lyskamm, the "Naso de Lyskamm" (4272 m). Steeply ascending, the trail leads to this magnificent vantage point in front of the gigantic Lyskamm. The descent to the large glacier plateau is just as steep. Well acclimatised and highly motivated, you are now targeting four more 4000m mountains: Ludwigshöhe (4341 m), the rocky Corno Nero (4231 m), the Balmenhorn (4167 m) with the bivouac box for lunch and the Vincent Pyramid (4245 m). If all coordinates fit, you will experience a great summit day that will remain unforgettable! Descent followed by an aperitif with cool drinks on the sun terrace of Refugio Mantova (3498 m), a modern hut with a bright, spacious dining room where the espresso machine is a must! Dinner and overnight stay Rifugio Mantova (3498 m)
Day 4: Rifugio Mantova - Capanna Margherita After the great summit day yesterday, you will start again today. Wide glacier slopes with large crevasse zones along which you hike are just right for warming up. Your first destination is the Lysjoch, from where you can cross the elegant Parrotspitze (4432 m) on a snow ridge. The view of the dizzyingly mighty Monte Rosa east wall is breathtaking and intense. After an extensive break you will celebrate the ascent to your highest hut on the summit of the Signalkuppe: the "Capanna Regina Margherita" (4554 m). The cottage has several floors and offers incredible comfort for such an exposed location. At sunset you can see the Matterhorn on one side and the rice fields of the Po plain in the east, above which the mighty shadow of the massif emerges. Dinner and overnight Capanna Regina Margherita.
Day 5: Zumsteinspitze (4563 m) - Zermatt (1600 m) The sun bathes the glacier peaks in the first cold colours with a timid play of lights. The last mountain you visit at the end, the Zumsteinspitze (4563 m) is a pre summit of the Dufourspitze and at the same time the highest point for this week. Just in time for the best photo light you stand on the summit and enjoy the colourful spectacle with the magnificent view. Farewell to the highest peaks of the Alps, farewell to Italy! The descent takes you across the wild border glacier and past the sky-high north face of the Lyskamm. Above the new Monte Rosa hut you can remove the crampons and greet the first summer flowers on granite rocks. Second breakfast with a view of the entire Monte Rosa Group on the sun terrace of the new Monte Rosa Hut - you are back in Switzerland, there are Rösti again! After this refreshing break you descend over rope-secured rock steps to the Gornergletscher. Glacier ice and moraine scree alternate before you reach the steep iron ladders to the Gornergrat. The mountain herbs and wildflowers sprout splendidly on this southern slope, an intense contrast to the snow-white glacier mountains and the grey eastern wall of the Matterhorn opposite. In the early afternoon you reach the station "Rotenboden" above the Riffelsee. Train ride together to Zermatt to the railway station. Farewell with cool drinks at the station buffet. Individual journey home from Zermatt railway station (shuttle trains to the car park in Täsch).

Are you up to the Spaghetti Tour? Your requirements...
The euphonious name "Spaghetti Tour" sounds like a vacation in the south and does not quite capture the character of this medium-difficulty, high-alpine mountaineering tour in one of the highest glacier areas in the Alps. Important is a very good condition for these tours of several hours with the high sleeping altitudes, always far above 3000 meters. As the highest goal we head towards the end of the tour the magical Cabana Margherita! You can only enjoy the indescribable view from up there if you are well acclimatized. Therefore, we recommend to spend a few days on hikes around Zermatt before the tour to be already pre-acclimatized.
Almost all the time we are on glacier fields, we rope mostly directly at the hut and then enter the glacier. Narrow ridge passages there are mainly around the Castor and climbing passages up to the 2nd degree are waiting for us at Naso de Lys.
Specifically, you need some practice with the crampons. For this we offer the BERIE beginner tours to train these skills. On the beginner tour you will learn the most important basics. Accompanied by our professional mountain guide.
This tour can not be compared with a normal or simple hike. Don't worry, you are in the best hands with us! The guide will continuously adjust the pace and pay attention to you. Of course, you will be secured on every stage. Enjoy the Spaghetti Tour with all its facets!
