After a rest in Arusha National Park with a short safari and overnight stay in Hatari Lodge, our route then takes us off the beaten track via the Glacier Route of the Northern Icefield to the summit and highest point of Kilimanjaro (5895 m). A unique trekking experience
The four-day ascent via the Momella route leads through lush rainforests, past giraffes, buffaloes and monkeys, before reaching the alpine zone. The facts

One of the most challenging routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Very good physical condition and experience on high alpine hikes are required to enjoy this route.
At the summit of Mount Meru there are rocky passages (T 3+/T4) which are defused with chains.
The summit day to Kilimanjaro is often pathless and leads over long stretches of scree, the Moonlight Wall is short and has easy climbing sections. The glaciers are technically easy to climb.

Day 1: Flight with KLM to Arusha. Arrival in the evening. Transfer to the hotel in Moshi.
Day 2: City stroll in Moshi and the coffee plantations. Arrival in Africa. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3: After breakfast in the morning drive to the Momella Gate in the Arusha National Park. Accompanied by a ranger you hike to the Miriakamba hut. (2500 m). Dinner, overnight stay in the MBZ Mirikamba hut.
Day 4: The trail continues up to Saddle Hut at 3550m. Overnight stay Saddle hut, MBZ.
Day 5: You set off in the dark to experience the sunrise on Mount Meru, Arusha's local mountain. Dreamlike! The steep, long climb is rewarded with a fantastic view across to Kilimanjaro, the Masai steppe and the green highlands of East Africa. After intense summit happiness, we hike to the Mirikamba hut. Overnight stay in the hut.
Day 6: Descent to Hatari Lodge, lunch. In the afternoon relax at the lodge, aperitif at the campfire. Overnight stay at Hatari Lodge.
Day 7: In the morning we go on a game drive (safari with 4×4 vehicle) in Arusha National Park, there are many buffalos, flamingos and elephants in the park. In the afternoon, we can observe giraffes at the lodge and end the day by the open fire on the terrace. Overnight stay at Hatari Lodge.
Day 8: Departure for Kilimanjaro: Drive to Lemosho Gate, meeting point with the porter and guide team. Ascent to Mkubwa Camp (2780 m). Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 9: Trekking through the montane rainforest to Camp Shira 1 (3500 m). Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 10: Acclimatization with a hike to the Cathedralpoint lookout mountain (3872 m). Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 11: Trek to Moir Camp (4175 m) far into the high alpine landscape of Kilimanjaro. Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 12: Acclimatization with a hike to the high-altitude Lava Tower Camp (4640 m), descent back to the tents at Moir Camp (4175 m)
Day 13: Well acclimatized, we now head to Lava Tower Camp for one last night. Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 14: Well prepared, we start the long summit day at midnight. We hike without a path over the Moonlight Wall (short climbing sections) up to the edge of the Northern Ice Field. We hike over glacier surfaces to the edge of the Reusch crater. The mighty ice walls are very impressive and we are very lonely here. After crossing the Reusch Crater, we make another steep ascent to Uhuru Peak, which we reach around midday. The summit success will remain unforgettable!
The descent is via the Sella Point to the Millenium Camp via the steep Umbwe route, where we will arrive in the evening.
Day 15: Descent in the morning through the mountain rainforest to the gate. Lunch and first cool drinks at Umbwe Gate. Drive to Weru-Weru Lodge. BBQ and dinner in the lodge garden.
16. relaxation at the lodge pool, late afternoon drive to JRO airport between Moshi and Arusha. Return flight in the evening to Amsterdam and Zurich. Or module safari after appropriate planning.
